2017 Election Calendar for Citizens of Winterville

  • October 10 - Last day to register to vote

How do I register to vote?

The Athens Board of Elections manages voter registration and conducts all elections within Athens-Clarke County, regardless of the city or unincorporated area where they reside.

You must be registered as a resident within the area in which you intend to vote. You must be registered 29 days prior to the date of the election in which you wish to vote, and you must be registered.  Registration deadline for the November 8, 2016 election is October 11, 2016.

To register to vote, you must:

  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Be a legal resident of Georgia
  • Be at least 17 ½ years of age (must be 18 years of age in order to vote)
  • Not be serving a sentence for a conviction of a felony involving moral turpitude
  • Have not been found mentally incompetent by a judge

Georgia citizens have access to several convenient methods of registering to vote. To register to vote in Athens-Clarke County, you may do any of the following.

1) Download the voter application form online & mail in.

2) Pick up the voter registration form and mail in.
Pick up a mail-in registration form from the following locations. You will be mailed a voter registration card from the Athens Board of Elections. Your precinct and polling location will be designated on the card.

3) Complete a voter registration application online.
To register to vote online, you must have a valid driver’s license or identification card issued by GA Department of Driver Services (DDS) with signature on file with DDS. You may use this system to (1) Register to vote in Georgia or (2) change your name and/or address on your current registration record. Please see the Georgia Online Voter Registration System.

Where do I vote?

The polling place for citizens of Winterville whom reside within the city borders is the Winterville Train Depot (See the map of Precinct 1A).

Identification Requirements:

Voters participating in an election in-person will be required to show photo identification. When voting in the General Election, voters will be required to show one of the following six forms of photo identification when voting in-person during advance voting or on Election Day:

  • A Georgia driver's license, even if expired;
  • Any valid state or federal government issued photo ID, including a free Voter ID Card issued by your county registrar or the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS);
  • Valid U.S. passport;
  • Valid employee photo ID from any branch, department, agency, or entity of the U.S. Government, Georgia, or any county, municipality, board, authority, or other entity of this state;
  • Valid U.S. military photo ID; or
  • Valid tribal photo ID.

If a voter does not have one of these forms of photo identification, he or she can obtain a FREE Voter Identification Card at their county registrar's office or the Georgia Department of Drivers Services.
