These are acronyms and words being used during the grant writing process.

  1. HUD – Housing and Urban Development . . . a federal agency.
  2. CDBG – Community Development Block Grant issued by HUD.  Grant monies awarded after a complex application and selection process.  Either you get amount requested or you do not receive grant . . . no partial award.  Upper limit is $500,000.

  3.  ACCA  - Athens Community Council on Aging – community agency serving senior citizen in Athens area.  Uses funds from various government and private sources to fund multiple programs dedicated to senior adults.

  4.  ARMCG - Armentrout Roebuck Matheny Consulting Group - private consulting firm retained to assist in preparation of preliminary plans for SPLOST project and as consultants for HUD CDBG application.

  5.  NEGRC – Northeast Georgia Regional Commission – Providing fee-for-service and no-fee services, consultation, and assistance to local governments and citizens within service area.

  6. Winterville Heritage Foundation, Inc. – functions to support Winterville historical preservation projects.  The Foundation accepts contributions, memorials and tributes as a 501C3 not for profit organization.

  7.  SPLOST – Special Local Option Sales Tax – City of Winterville’s request for project fujding are (1) reviewed by a Citizens’ Advisory Committee (2) reviewed and approved/denied by ACC Board of Commissioners and (3) approved projects are then voted on by citizens of Clarke County.  Collection of tax and distribution to approved projects will occur over an eight year period.

  8. Entitlement/Non-entitlement government – designation by HUD standards.  Athens is an entitlement area.  Winterville is a non-entitlement area.  Entitlement status governs types of federal grants available to applicant.

  9.  Professional grant writer/grant administrator – individual or agency knowledgeable in writing and administering complex grants.  NEGRC offers this assistant as a ‘fee for service’.

  10.  Historic Restoration – to restore a vintage structure: using as much of the original construction as possible/ retaining the historical presence of the building; planning for the building to be used for the same or a new purpose; duplicating or replacing historical details whenever possible.  Other approaches are Historic Preservation, Historic Reconstruction an Historic Rehabilitation.
