Welcome to Winterville!

On behalf of the City Council, the businesses, and the citizens of Winterville, it is truly a pleasure to welcome you to our city.

In the short time that I have been in office, much has happened, and I want to share the good news with citizens as well as present and future visitors to our wonderful city. We are working to improve our communication methods, which currently include our Winterville Gazette, Town Hall meetings, our Facebook, and the advertised City Council meetings. We also utilize the Winterville Listserv and Nextdoor.com, so please sign up. Along with these efforts, we are currently revamping our entire website. Please bear with us through this process as we are expanding our site to include more information and to be much more efficient.

I am pleased to announce that the Winterville Center for Community and Culture is now up and running, thanks to our former Mayor Emily Eisenman and the citizens of Winterville. Led by the Director for the Winterville Center, Jack Eisenman, the Winterville Center will serve as a regional enrichment center for adults of all ages. Though seniors will always be a priority, there are a variety of opportunities available to everyone. I encourage everyone to check out the Winterville Center's page for more information.

Spring is around the corner, therefore the Winterville Community Garden is now accepting applications for the year. In addition to the gardening season, the warm weather also brings with it one of the oldest festivals in the state of Georgia: the Marigold Festival. Mark your calendars, because this is a celebration that you do not want to miss.

Though I am proud of what has been accomplished since my inauguration, there is still much to be done. I have established councils to fulfill many of my campaign promises, including renovating the Winterville Auditorium, and I am working with the City Council, the Planning & Zoning Commission and  Northeast Georgia Regional Commission (NEGRC) on several initiatives to improve the quality of life for Winterville citizens.

First is the Safe Routes to School program, which will ensure that our children will be safe when walking to and from Winterville Elementary School and the surrounding areas. We have established a six-month moratorium on all commercial development within the town's borders to allow us to develop design guidelines. We are hard at work maintaining Winterville's historic character and screen-door community feel.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone out and about! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to get involved, or if you have any concerns. My office is located in the Winterville Depot, or I can be reached via email.

Regards,
Dodd I. Ferrelle
Mayor of Winterville
