The Winterville Cultural Center, 371 N Church St, will be open as an emergency shelter from 5 p.m. Friday, January 10th until 10 a.m. Saturday, January 11th. If you know ahead of time that you will need to stay at the shelter, please email brucejohnson@gmail.com. You can also just show up in the middle of the night. Someone will be there to let you in.
If you have a medical device that needs power, we are prepared for that even if we lose power from the grid. The Cultural Center has a 36 kWh emergency battery backup system that will keep the first floor lights on, the refrigerator running (for food and medications), and power a portable heater if necessary. We will also do our best to accommodate pets. Please bring all supplies needed, including leashes and carriers/kennels.
If you need to come to the shelter, please use extreme caution when driving.
